Frank Cimino Flooring provides expert hardwood floor sanding and refinishing throughout Nassau County — bringing dull, scratched, and worn floors back to life.
Hardwood floor refinishing is one of the most cost-effective ways to restore your home’s appearance and value in Nassau County. Over time, hardwood floors develop scratches, lose their finish, and become dull from years of daily use. Left untreated, the damage goes deeper — and what could have been a refinish becomes a full hardwood floor replacement.
At Frank Cimino Flooring, we handle everything from light screen-and-recoat jobs to full sand, stain, and refinish projects — so Nassau County homeowners get showroom-quality results without the cost of new floors.
Many Nassau County homes have original hardwood buried under decades of carpet, tile, or linoleum. We uncover it. We sand it to bare wood. We restain it in any of 20+ colors — from natural blondes to deep espressos — and seal it with a durable protective finish.
We also provide bleaching services for homeowners looking to lighten or even out their floor’s tone. Our vacuum sanding system keeps dust contained throughout. No demolition. No weeks of disruption. You get your floors back in days.

Our most popular hardwood floor staining options for Nassau County homes

Solid hardwood floors (¾” thick) can typically be refinished 7–10 times over their lifespan. Engineered hardwood depends on the wear layer — usually 1 to 3 times. We inspect your floors during the free estimate to confirm candidacy.
If scratches penetrate through the finish into the wood, refinishing is the right call. Surface dullness or minor scuffs may be addressed with a screen and recoat — a lighter, less expensive process.
For smaller projects (1–2 rooms), most families can stay home by closing off the work area. For full-home projects, we recommend 1–2 nights away during the initial sanding and first coat.
Factors affecting the refinishing cost
Floor Condition: Heavily scratched, gouged, or water-damaged floors require more sanding passes and prep time, which affects the overall cost. We assess this during your free in-home estimate.
Square Footage: Larger areas cost more overall but less per square foot. Most standard Nassau County living rooms and dining rooms fall in the 300–600 sq ft range.
Staining: A simple recoat (no stain change) is the most affordable option. Changing your stain color — going darker, lighter, or gray — adds to the process but delivers a dramatic transformation.
Wood Species: Softer woods like pine require more careful sanding. Harder species like oak and maple are more forgiving and often cost less per pass.
Engineered vs. Solid Hardwood: Engineered hardwood can be refinished — but only a limited number of times depending on the wear layer thickness. We inspect your floors before quoting to confirm they’re a good candidate.
A “screen and recoat” is possible for lightly worn floors with no deep scratches. It adds a new protective coat over the existing finish. For scratched, stained, or color-change projects, full sanding is required.
Most Nassau County homeowners refinish every 7–15 years depending on foot traffic, pets, and maintenance. High-traffic areas like hallways and kitchens may need attention sooner.
